Sting - Concert information

[Updated: February 8, 2002]

21-09-2001 / London / BBC Studios ("America - A Tribute To Heroes") / UK
Sting, Dominic and Miles Bould (on percussion) performed Fragile on the massive US Telethon "America - A Tribute To Heroes" at 3.30 am. Together with U2 they appeared live by satellite from London. All the other artists performed at the CBS studios in Los Angeles and Sony soundstages in New York City.
The two-hour live, commercial-free, simulcast raised funds for a long-term relief effort for Americans who have directly suffered from the previous week's terrorist attacks. The event was carried on at least 31 US broadcast and cable networks and beamed to 156 countries around the globe. More than 8,000 radio stations around the country aired the broadcast as well. The simulcast was believed to mark the world's biggest assemblage of broadcast and cable outlets around a single entertainment event.
Sting paid tribute to Herman Sandler, boss of investment bank Sandler O'Neill, who died in the World Trade Centre in New York City. "I'd like to dedicate this song to one of the victims of last Tuesday's appalling tragedy, a good friend to my wife and to myself, Mr. Herman Sandler, a kind generous man who I would imagine died in much the same way as he lived his life - heroically helping other people," said Sting.
