After more than a decade Sting performed in Ireland again. Three (almost) soldout shows were scheduled for Dublin's largest indoor venue, the Point Depot (at East Link Bridge). This building was originally constructed as a railway terminus in 1878. The shows were fully seated with a total capacity of 4,500.
Saturday 16-11-1996 was a setup day. The nucleus of Sting's crew came in the next day.
Each night Shawn Colvin supported and performed an acoustic version of Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic during her set.
During the soundcheck Twenty Five To Midnight was rehearsed extensively. Sting decided to add this song for Shape Of My Heart. Dominic's oldest son (10 years?) jammed together with Sting and Vinnie.
Before I Was Brought To My Senses: "It's nice to be back in Dublin. It has been a long time. I think about eight years. I must have been sixteen".
Before Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic Sting shortly referred to Shawn Colvin ("One more time"), who performed the same song during her set.
After Mad About You: "That was a song about obsession. So, I had nothing to do with that". While the band walked towards Sting: "This is Vinnie. A band is only as good as his drummer, right? Vinnie Colaiuta is one of the greatest drummers in the world or the greatest. This is Dominic. This is Kenny on his toy-organ". A semi-acoustic version of You Still Touch Me was performed. This already started about two weeks before near the end of the Australian tour.
Before Fields Of Gold Danny changed Sting's bass and Sting joked: "It was in tune, when we bought it".
"I can't really see you. Turn on the lights. At this point of the show, in the habit of ... [people already started to shout]. No, I like a bit of reticence with my singers. We'll keep you in mind. I'll explain a bit more. This song is called I'm So Happy I Can't Stop Crying. Do anybody know that? I'm looking for ... You'll die up here. I'll pick this lady over there, but I want a guy as well. Alright, you'll do. You're my man. You'll never know what you'll get up here. Sometimes it works, sometimes it won't. Hi CJ, you're you doing man? Where are they?". Everything collapsed into hilarity once Sting discovered they couldn't sing. He got another guy. Rory proved he could sing the song and then darted around the stage shaking hands with Dominic and Kenny. During the song Rory got great support from the audience, while the girl and the other guy "looked sexy" and waltzed about the stage.
Although Twenty Five To Midnight was rehearsed extensively during the soundcheck, it didn't sound well as the first encore.
